From 6:00 pm – drinks and canapes in the Dinghy Locker, before moving to the Ballroom at 7:00 pm for presentation of the GNZ Annual Awards.

Dinner will follow, with six guest speakers using video and slide shows, to recall some incredible gliding feats of the past:

  • New Zealand’s first known glider flight in 1909
  • New Zealand’s great female glider pilots
  • Keith Wakeman’s stunning 1957 flight across Cook Strait in a Slingsby Skylark 2
  • Doug Yarrall’s World Absolute Altitude record of 37,288 feet at Masterton in 1968 in an SHK
  • Bruce Drake talks about setting a World Goal & Free Distance Record of 1,254 km in January 1978, flying from the bottom of the South Island to the tip of the North Island’s East Cape with David Speight and Dick Georgeson
  • Terry Delore talks about the inspiration for his memorable flights and the challenges that were overcome.
